Former Coaches

Matt Oakes

Matt finished up his collegiate career at Oklahoma State University in 2002.  Matt went undrafted in the 2002 MLB draft and was signed by the Winnipeg Goldeyes, who was an affiliate of the Northern Independent Baseball League.  Upon arriving in Chicago to meet the team he got to meet and visit with Pete Rose and listen to stories about hitting against Sandy Koufax.  Two weeks into being a part of the Goldeyes, a dream message was left on his phone from his father.  An immediate call was made to his father following the game letting him know that the Detroit Tigers had picked him up and he was going to Florida to join the Rookie Club.  Several tears were shed as father and son got to share a moment that they had worked toward since he was in diapers.  Matt played in (AA) Erie, (A) Grand Rapids, two seasons with the Mid-Missouri Maverick Independent Team, and finally rounding out his career, before starting a family, with a invite to Spring Training with the New York Yankees.    Matt is currently teaching Agriculture Education, coaching at the High School Level in NW Oklahoma, and is also a real estate agent selling ranches across the State of Oklahoma.
